Busy Bee Kids Zone
Finding an activity the whole family can enjoy can be a struggle. But at the California Honey Festival,
there truly is something for everyone, from the youngest to the oldest and everyone in between. Kids of
all ages can explore the Busy Bee Kid Zone, which offers entertainment and education in one place.
Uncle Jer’s Traveling Bee Show
Uncle Jer’s Travelling Bee Show at 12 noon and 2 p.m. helps children understand how bees pollinate
and how honey is made during a fun and energy-filled performance.
Jerry Johnson a.k.a. Uncle Jer lived in Fiddletown (near Sutter’s Creek) on his mother and
step-father’s farm. They were bee keepers with approximately ten thousand colonies. The family
would travel up and down the central valley transporting their hives from one orchard to another.
They also harvested and sold the honey produced by their bees. Jerry now has anywhere between
three and twenty-five colonies.
The Planet Bee Foundation will be on hand to deliver interactive, hands-on presentations at 1 and 4
p.m. teaching kids and adults about environmental stewardship.
Planet Bee is working towards a future in which children and adults are exposed to global
environmental issues, and given the tools to combat them. Today the American child spends an
average of 7 hours a day in front of a screen inside, away from nature. Planet Bee's educational
programs take students outside, playing a crucial role in connecting children with the earth at the
time when they are developing the values which will steer the course of their lives.
Dilly Dally the Clown- Bee Balloon Show at 3:00
Kids will also be wowed by the deft hands of Dilly Dally the Clown as she twists and ties balloons into
every imaginable shape — including, of course, honey bees! A popular attraction throughout the area,
Dilly Dally brings entertainment to all ages wherever she goes through the art of clowning.
